Orange County (CA) Register Published: July 10, 2008 3:00 a.m. By LOIS EVEZICH STAFF WRITER - LAGUNA NIGUEL - Folks anxious to show off their best attributes will gather starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday to moon passengers on Amtrak trains as they pass through Laguna Niguel for the 29th annual Mooning of Amtrak. Shannon Hutchinson from Mugs Away Saloon said the event goes on until everyone passes out, or the saloon closes at 2 a.m. Sunday. How this bizarre event got started is unclear. It supposedly started 29 years ago in the Mugs Away Saloon when patron K.T. Smith vowed to buy a drink for anyone who'd cross the street and moon a train. And so the legend goes.
