Advocate – Florida Parishes – LA - Deputies arrested a man Thursday after he attempted to break into the home of an 82-year-old Walker woman who waited inside her front door with a crowbar, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office reported. “Somebody is trying to break into my door!” the frightened woman told a 911 operator in a recording of the emergency call she placed Thursday morning.“Are you home alone?” the operator asked. “Yes, ma’am, I am, and I’ve got a crowbar,” the woman said. She told the operator she had a broken leg, was recuperating and was using a walker. The operator then said she was going to stay on the phone with the woman and that three deputies are on their way.
During the tape, the operator calmed the woman — who thought the man might have fled — until she saw him again.
“He’s there! He’s there! I can see him moving. He’s fixing to try and get in my door again!” the woman said, becoming excited. “Tell them to please hurry.”
The operator told the woman deputies were on their way and advised her to “stay calm.”
“If he starts coming in my door, what am I going to do?” the woman asked the operator at one point.
The operator told her she didn’t have to stay by the front door, and she should go where she feels safe. The operator suggested that the woman lock herself in a bathroom or closet.
“If he comes in that door, I’m going to hit him if I can” with the crowbar, the woman said.
