At Hanoi summit with Kim Jong Un, Trump says he’s in ‘no rush’ to denuclearize North Korea

latimes.com – By Shashank Bengali, Eli Stokols and Victoria Kim – Hanoi – President Trump said Thursday that he was in “no rush” to denuclearize North Korea, continuing to lower expectations for a major breakthrough as he and Kim Jong Un held their second summit on the reclusive nation’s weapons program. “Speed is not that important to me,” Trump said, seated at a round table with Kim at Hanoi’s Metropole hotel, where the two leaders were meeting for the second time in eight months.

While Trump said he couldn’t speak for what would happen in their formal meetings Thursday, “I can say a little bit longer term and over a period of time we’re going to have fantastic success.”

Kim said he would “do all my best to bring a good result ultimately today.”
