mirror.co.uk – By Nicola Oakley – Foreign secretary Boris Johnson arrived in Libya on Wednesday on a two-day trip to urge rival parties to compromise and unite the country, following the fall of Colonel Gaddafi in 2011. He became the first senior Western politician to visit Libyan military commander Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar at his home near Benghazi. But part of the very serious trip took a more farcical turn after a military band tried to impress him with a rendition of the UK’s national anthem.
As a welcome for the foreign secretary in Benghazi, the musicians lined up to perform a version of God Save the Queen… Unfortunately, it seems they might have needed a bit more practice, as it doesn’t sound, er, exactly like our national anthem… It has to be heard to be believed.
